NIt doesn’t matter what the season is, surplus space is always handy. But this is Christmas. At this time of year there are likely to be more people coming and going, and you are likely to need more storage.

So, it pays to have a little extra legroom in your home.

Having a garage or cellar conversion will provide a very welcome buffer. Prior to conversion, your cellar was probably a concrete fridge that was home to the odd spider and that musty smell you could never identify.
With Christmas coming, how would a cellar conversion come in handy?
Damp and mould can affect your health

A place for the kids to play

Do you have kids? Do you have friends or family members that have kids? If your answer to this is yes, then your cellar conversion is a perfect place for them.

Let us clarify that. We are not suggesting that a cellar conversion will work well as some form of cold storage for rug rats. You know how it is though, people are visiting you and the kids get bored pretty quick. Sure, most of them are polite about it, but you can just tell.

However, if you have a converted cellar, it might give them space to play, or watch a film whilst you and the parents sit and chat about old times.

A place for the adults to play

Come to think of it, why should the kids have all the fun?

Let’s be honest, after a couple of drinks, adults like to play games too. A cellar conversion is the ideal place for a games room.

So, whilst the rest of your house is the very model of polite society and decorum, beneath your floors could harbour a bar and table to play those bawdy games of Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble or Cards Against Humanity.
Mould and Damp

A place for all those new toys

If you have children, you will likely realise that no house is big enough when Christmas comes. By the time all the grandparents, aunts, and uncles have paid tribute to your special little munchkin, the sofa is taken over, and you are walking through your living room as though trying not to set off a landmine.

Let’s be honest the kids can’t play with everything all at once can they?

If your house does usually resemble the business end of a warzone come Christmas day, having that extra space as temporary storage would be most welcome.

A place for all that extra food

Another Christmas certainty is the extreme amount of food you will buy and eat. All that extra food and drink needs somewhere to go (other than your stomach). Having a cellar conversion will give you the space to store another fridge or freezer.

Conversely, the cellar conversion could be the room you leave your buffet for people to come and pick at. Either way, your handy sub-floor room means that you don’t need to have all your food taking up space in your kitchen.

A place to chill out

Maybe your biggest problem is escape.

Christmas is quite an invasive force at the end of the day. I mean, the moment you walk in your living room there is a walloping big tree twinkling its lights at you. There are boxes of presents and food everywhere.

While you are getting your house ready for Christmas, maybe you just need a room to flee to. What you might need is a Christmas-free room where you can play your guitar or watch a film. Create a room that doesn’t care about Whamageddon or whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
